Sustainable Delivery of Housing

House Building in the UK is facing unprecedented challenge. At a time of huge economic uncertainty, projections of demographic change in the UK suggest that we will need to build 2 million new homes by 2016 and a further 1 million by 2020. At the same time the twin imperatives at the heart of government housing policy of developing sustainable communities and sustainable dwellings is creating extra challenge for those responsible for the delivery of new housing.

New thinking and action is required to meet these challenges. While the government has put in place a series of initiatives to provide an enabling framework for house building, delivery will only be achieved through the response of the industry itself. Community design, affordability and achieving the goals of zero carbon homes present new challenges to our industry. So, the aim of the industry day is to bring to the fore key issues related to the improved delivery of affordable, low energy homes in the face of economic uncertainty. The day will showcase good practice nationally and internationally and provide a forum for all concerned in the successful delivery of affordable, low energy homes to debate and discuss the key barriers and enablers to successful delivery.
